Remote Learning Does Not Mean Removed Learning: Comprehensive Involvement Made Easy for Virtual School Parents

It may come as a surprise that many parents are admittedly under-involved in their child’s education. If this isn’t surprising, then you need only nod your head and add accessibility to your list of K-12 virtual school pros. Because at VLACS, parents are not only encouraged to become involved in courses, procedures, and grades-parent/teacher cooperation is commonplace.

Compare the Numbers

According to a survey conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics, nearly one-third of parents with children enrolled in traditional school settings do not attend regular parent/teacher conferences, and only 33% meet with a guidance counselor.

However, numbers like that are unacceptable when it comes to virtual learning, which is why we have designed a curriculum and procedures that not only encourage parents and students to contact advisors and instructors but also ensure that this communication happens no matter what.

At VLACS, we make it a point to reach out to you-meaning 100% of VLACS parents are involved with their child’s education. For us, this is normal-the way it should be-and another reason VLACS stands out in K-12 virtual schooling.

Remote learning does not mean removed learning.

Although there is no hand to shake, VLACS staff is anything but absent. In a system where less than one in four parents understand what their child should know and when–where 64% believe it natural to decrease involvement in later grades–VLACS is an oasis. Comparing any parent-involvement statistics with that of VLACS is no contest-there is no question mark in a figure like 100%.

Ensuring 100% Involvement

After enrollment, we call you. So, parent involvement in VLACS starts even before students begin their courses.

Both students and parents are well-acquainted with the instructors and advisors that will guide them not only through classes and assignments but also through further instruction, procedures, and even college placement.

Students and parents in need of clarification in any aspect of the VLACS curriculum are ensured phone or email contact is returned within 24-48 hours. In addition, instructors hold regular office hours for immediate help and clarification.

During enrollment, we keep calling.

Every month your student’s instructor will schedule a call with you. We use this consistent schedule not only to keep the dialogue open but to let you know how your student is performing.

But don’t feel like you have to wait on us. With your Guardian Account, you have 24/7 access to your student’s grade book, including both submitted and graded assignments.

With monthly phone calls and progress reports, quick and easy access to direct parent/teacher communication, and 24/7 online access to your student’s performance and progress, 100% parent involvement is not only comprehensive-it’s effortless.

First and foremost, a K-12 virtual school gives your child the opportunity to learn. But it also gives you, the parent, a chance to learn about your child and their learning progression. Because in the end, your child needs your support to succeed and we don’t stand in the way of that.
