Overview

This course introduces students to the world of Adobe Photoshop. Students will get an insight into what it is like working in the visual and graphic design industry. Over 11 modules, students will learn everything from absolute basics like navigating Photoshop to performing complex tasks like editing and retouching photos, applying filters and effects, and even creating original artwork. The course contains guided tutorials, do-it-yourself projects, and great resources that will help students practice and learn how to work in Photoshop.

Course Requirements

Please read the system requirements before signing up for this course. Chrome OS doesn’t allow any third-party installations onto their laptops. A chromebook cannot be used for this course.

Major Topics and Concepts

In this course, students will:

  • Understand the critical concepts related to working with colleagues and clients as well as crucial legal, technical, and design-related knowledge.
  • Navigate the interface setup and program settings that assist in an efficient and effective workflow.
  • Identify the process as well as demonstrate the ability to ingest digital assets for a project.
  • Organize document structure such as layers and tracks.
  • Manage document Structure for efficient workflows.
  • Use core tools and features of the application to create visual elements and manipulate text and selections.
  • Transform digital graphics and media using basic reconstructing and retouching techniques to manipulate digital graphics and media as well as modify the appearance of elements using filters and styles.
  • Save and export documents or assets within individual layers or selections.

    Students will demonstrate an understanding of Adobe Photoshop fundamentals by explaining the use of creative cloud and the communication and legal considerations and by using the fundamental features of Photoshop such as color, typography, design, and composition.
  • Understanding Digital Images
    Students will demonstrate an understanding of digital images in Adobe Photoshop by explaining how to organize and customize settings in the Photoshop interface using custom presets and preferences, organizing the workspace, manipulating elements, and using color editing.
  • Understanding Layers
    Students will demonstrate an understanding of layers in Adobe Photoshop by explaining how to manage the design elements of a document by applying layers and masks and using nondestructive and destructive editing.
  • Understanding Editing and Publishing
    Students will demonstrate an understanding of editing and publishing in Adobe Photoshop by creating, modifying, and adjusting an image, by using specifications to save and export, and by reviewing the structure of certification.
