This one-credit course is designed for educational professionals. It may be taken on its own or as part of a cluster of courses on Customized Learning: Demonstrations of Learning.
This graduate-level course examines the practices and principles of assessment design in a customized learning environment. In particular, students will explore the purpose, objectives, and role of assessment in customized learning environments, exploring both traditional and non-traditional assessments. They will be able to make the connection between customized learning assessments and higher-order thinking. Students will also learn about the backward design approach and adaptable assessment design to develop assessment strategies that align with learning objectives and instructional practices while promoting higher-order thinking. By engaging in critical analysis, reflection, and hands-on application, educators will design and implement assessments that foster meaningful, personalized learning experiences.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of assessment practices and principles by explaining the purpose of assessment, explaining assessment objectives, and describing examples of assessment practices.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of assessment in customized learning by describing the use of assessments to measure competency and explaining assessment methods to promote higher-order thinking.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of assessment design for customized learning by describing components of assessment design, explaining backward design, and explaining adaptable assessment design.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of traditional and nontraditional assessments in customized learning by describing traditional assessment and explaining nontraditional assessments.
