The CompTIA Security+ certification has been available since 2002 and has undergone several changes and updates since that time. The current Security+ certification exam was released during November 2020 and is represented by the exam ID SY0-601.

The Security+ certification is widely recognized and demonstrates candidates have the baseline cybersecurity skills and knowledge needed to assess security in an enterprise environment as well as identify, implement, monitor, and secure the technologies used there. Additionally, the Security+ exam measures a candidate’s knowledge of governance, risk, compliance, laws, and essential incident response capabilities.

Competencies

Cyber Security Architecture

Students will demonstrate an understanding of cyber security architecture by describing authorization design concepts, describing cyber security vulnerabilities, and explaining the importance of physical security controls.

Security Management

Students will demonstrate an understanding of security management by explaining the importance of regulations, describing risk management, and explaining the implementation of data protections.

Security Threats

Students will demonstrate an understanding of security threats by explaining security vulnerability identification, describing attack indicators, and explaining security assessment techniques.

Incident Response

Students will demonstrate an understanding of incident response by describing incident response policies, describing incident response tools, and explaining digital forensics.

Security Implementation

Students will demonstrate an understanding of security implementation by explaining the implementation of secure protocols, explaining wireless security configurations, explaining account management controls, and describing key infrastructure implementation.
