College Composition assesses writing skills taught in most first-year college composition courses. Those skills include analysis, argumentation, synthesis, usage, ability to recognize logical development, and research. This exam includes two required essay sections.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of the conventions of standard written English by explaining sentence structure, explaining grammatical boundaries, and explaining word relationships within sentences.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of revision skills by explaining the organization of writing, describing writers’ tools, and explaining rhetorical appeals.
Students will demonstrate an understanding source materials by explaining research skills, summarizing the evaluation of sources, and describing integration of sources into writing.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of rhetorical analysis by explaining rhetorical techniques, summarizing organizational structures, and explaining the evaluation of evidence.
Students will demonstrate an understanding of task-specific writing by creating an opinion piece, creating an argument piece, integrating evidence into the piece, and integrating task-specific mechanics into the piece.
