Imagine capturing stunning images while collaborating with a drone photographer! Or picture yourself exploring visual storytelling with a photojournalist. If you’re excited about applying your creativity to real-world careers, our VLACS Projects are the perfect fit for you!

This engaging learning pathway allows students to explore various career fields while mastering key concepts and skills. For each competency, you can choose to complete a pre-designed project that simulates real-life career tasks or create your own unique learning experience. Regardless of your choice, you’ll engage in thorough research and apply what you learn to authentic career scenarios.

With the pre-designed projects, you’ll tackle real-world tasks that align with each competency. If you decide to design your own experience, you’ll collaborate with your instructor and a mentor to design and complete meaningful career tasks that demonstrate your understanding. Projects

Art Director

Competency: Portrait Photography

You are the art director for a small magazine. You’ve been assigned to take portrait photos for the magazine’s next edition. The photos will need supporting notes to verify that they meet the specs for portrait photography.

You will create a portfolio of portrait photos with supporting notes that will explain the use of the exposure triangle, analyze composition in portrait photography, and explain portrait photos that depict emotion.

Real Estate Agent

Competency: Landscape Photography

You are a real estate photographer for a real estate company.  You’ve been assigned to take landscape photos for potential buyers.  The photos will need supporting notes to verify that they meet the specs of landscape photography.

You will create a portfolio of landscape photos with supporting notes that will explain the use of natural light, analyze composition in landscape photography, and explain landscape photographs that depict a mood.

Advertising Manager

Competency: Product Photography

You are an advertising manager for an online shopping website.  You’ve been assigned to take product photos of various products to entice consumers to buy your products. The photos will need supporting notes to verify that they meet the specs of product photography.

You will create a portfolio of landscape photos with supporting notes that will explain the use of artificial light, analyze composition in product photography, and explain product photographs designed to entice consumers.

 

Newspaper Editor

Competency: Documentary Photography

You are a journalist for a newspaper.  You’ve been assigned to take documentary photos for the next edition of the newspaper.  The photos will visually tell the story and should include people, places and objects.. The photos will need supporting notes to verify that they meet the specs for documentary photography.

You will create a portfolio of documentary photos with supporting notes that will explain storytelling through photography, analyze composition in documentary photographs, and explain sequencing of documentary photographs.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of product photography by explaining the use of artificial light, analyzing composition in product photography and creating product photographs designed to entice consumers.

Documentary Photography

Students will demonstrate an understanding of documentary photography by explaining storytelling through photography, evaluating composition in documentary photographs, and creating documentary photographs.
