Imagine improving performance while collaborating with a personal trainer! Or picture yourself exploring movement and wellness with a physical therapist. If you’re excited about applying your fitness knowledge to real-world careers, our VLACS Projects are the perfect fit for you!

This engaging learning pathway allows students to explore various career fields while mastering key concepts and skills. For each competency, you can choose to complete a pre-designed project that simulates real-life career tasks or create your own unique learning experience. Regardless of your choice, you’ll engage in thorough research and apply what you learn to authentic career scenarios.

With the pre-designed projects, you’ll tackle real-world tasks that align with each competency. If you decide to design your own experience, you’ll collaborate with your instructor and a mentor to design and complete meaningful career tasks that demonstrate your understanding. Fitness Instructor

Competency: Importance of Flexibility

You are a fitness instructor designing personalized training programs to help clients improve their overall health and physical performance. Your role involves educating clients on the importance of flexibility and guiding them through effective practices, as demonstrated in understanding the importance of flexibility.

You will create a flexibility training plan and supporting notes that will explain flexibility goal setting, describe the flexibility principles of training, summarize the role of joints in flexibility, and compare flexibility activities.

 

Strength and Conditioning Coach

Competency: Factors Contributing to Health and Fitness

You are a strength and conditioning coach developing programs to enhance athletic performance and overall health. Your work involves designing safe and effective fitness routines that address individual needs, as demonstrated in understanding the factors contributing to health and fitness.

You will create a comprehensive fitness plan and supporting notes that will summarize health risk factors, describe health- and skill-related components of fitness, and explain injury prevention.

Health Coach

Competency: Stress Management

You are a health coach empowering clients to achieve optimal well-being by addressing physical, mental, and emotional health challenges. Your role involves guiding individuals to goal setting in stress management.

You will create a health coaching plan and supporting notes that will describe assessment of stressors, explain stress management strategies, and summarize long- and short-term goals.

Personal Trainer

Competency: Cardiovascular Health

You are a personal trainer designing exercise programs to improve clients’ overall health and fitness. Your role involves promoting heart health and educating clients on maintaining a strong cardiovascular system, as demonstrated in understanding cardiovascular health.

You will create a cardiovascular fitness program and supporting notes that will explain the cardiovascular system, describe cardiovascular disease prevention, and analyze cardiovascular fitness.

Exercise Physiologist

Competency: The Benefits of Muscular Fitness

You are an exercise physiologist creating personalized fitness programs to enhance clients’ muscular strength, endurance, and overall health. Your role involves educating clients on safe and effective training practices, as demonstrated in understanding the benefits of muscular fitness.

You will create a muscular fitness program and supporting notes that will explain the benefits of weight training, describe weight-lifting exercises, and summarize training principles.

Sports Nutritionist

Competency: Nutritional Health

You are a sports nutritionist developing personalized nutrition plans to optimize athletic performance and overall health. Your work involves educating clients on balanced eating habits and hydration strategies, as demonstrated in understanding nutritional health.

You will create a nutrition plan and supporting notes that will analyze dietary guidelines, explain daily intake guidelines, and summarize the importance of water.

Sports Medicine Medical Assistant

Competency: A Healthy Body

You are a sports medicine medical assistant supporting patients in achieving and maintaining a healthy body to optimize performance and well-being. Your role involves educating patients on physical health and nutrition, as demonstrated in understanding a healthy body.

You will create a wellness guide and supporting notes that will explain body composition, analyze healthy weight management, and summarize eating issues.
