Imagine exploring the science of fitness while collaborating with a personal trainer or wellness coach. Or picture designing a workout plan alongside a physical therapist or nutritionist. If you’re excited about applying your knowledge of health and fitness to real-world careers, our VLACS Projects are the perfect fit for you!

This engaging learning pathway allows students to explore various career fields while mastering key concepts and skills. For each competency, you can choose to complete a pre-designed project that simulates real-life career tasks or create your own unique learning experience. Regardless of your choice, you’ll engage in thorough research and apply what you learn to authentic career scenarios.

With the pre-designed projects, you’ll tackle real-world tasks that align with each competency. If you decide to design your own experience, you’ll collaborate with your instructor and a mentor to design and complete meaningful career tasks that demonstrate your understanding. Fitness Trainer

Competency: Building a Healthy Body

You are a fitness trainer dedicated to helping clients build and maintain a healthy body through comprehensive and sustainable fitness routines. Your role involves educating clients on key fitness principles and guiding them to achieve long-term wellness, as demonstrated in building a healthy body.

You will create a fitness plan and supporting notes that will describe lifetime fitness foundations, explain training principles, explain cardio endurance and flexibility, and explain muscular strength and endurance.

Track Coach

Competency: Lifelong Fitness

You are a track coach guiding athletes to achieve peak performance while fostering habits that promote lifelong health and fitness. Your role involves teaching discipline, movement skills, and the importance of respectful conduct, as demonstrated in lifelong fitness.

You will create a training plan and supporting notes that will explain responsible and respectful behaviors, summarize lifelong fitness activities, summarize movement strategies, and explain movement mechanics.

Expedition Leader

Competency: Eating for Health

You are an expedition leader responsible for ensuring team members maintain their energy, health, and well-being during challenging outdoor adventures. Your role involves promoting proper nutrition to support physical fitness and endurance, as demonstrated in eating for health fitness.

You will create a nutrition guide and supporting notes that will summarize healthy eating habits, explain the nutritional value of food, and explain the effects of nutrition on the body.

Competencies
