Imagine developing essential life skills while collaborating with a financial advisor to plan a budget! Or picture yourself exploring career pathways with a human resources specialist. If you’re excited about applying your knowledge to real-world professions, our VLACS Projects are the perfect fit for you!

This engaging learning pathway allows students to explore various career fields while mastering key concepts and skills. For each competency, you can choose to complete a pre-designed project that simulates real-life career tasks or create your own unique learning experience. Regardless of your choice, you’ll engage in thorough research and apply what you learn to authentic career scenarios.

With the pre-designed projects, you’ll tackle real-world tasks that align with each competency. If you decide to design your own experience, you’ll collaborate with your instructor and a mentor to design and complete meaningful career tasks that demonstrate your understanding. Projects

Wellness Coach

Competency: Managing Physical and Mental Health

You are a wellness coach looking to increase your client load by showcasing your knowledge.  The website needs an update to better explain the importance of managing physical and mental health.

You will create a website mock-up that will explain the impact of healthy habits on overall wellness, explain the body and mind connection and describe strategies for meeting health goals.

Health Education Specialist

Competency: Avoiding and Minimizing Risky Behaviors

You are a Health Education Specialist providing health care services while working for a teen clinic. The clinic wants to address ways for avoiding and minimizing risky behaviors.

You will create a brochure for teens that will summarize factors that influence behavior, explain the access to information and services to enhance health, and describe disease prevention.

Community Health Worker

Competency: Family and Community Health

You are a community health worker for a city. The city council wants to improve family and community health.

You will create an information packet that will describe the use of interpersonal communication skills to enhance health, explain the elements of health care plans, and explain advocacy for family and community health to avoid health risks.

Nutritionist

Competency: Healthy Eating

You work for a successful pro sports organization as a nutritionist. You are a guest speaker at the local high school athletic teams presenting on healthy eating.

You will create visuals that explain the benefits of healthy eating habits, explain tools for eating healthy, and summarize strategies for making healthy food choices.

Police Officer

Competency: Creating and Maintaining Healthy Relationships

You are a police officer assigned to a school district as a school resource officer. The local high school has had some issues of disrespectful behavior, bullying and substance abuse and are in need of a lesson on creating and maintaining healthy relationships.

You will create a lesson that will explain the importance of treating people with dignity and respect, explain the avoidance of substance abuse, and summarize the daily practices of health-enhancing behaviors.

Competencies
