Projects allow students to demonstrate competence and understanding of concepts and skills by completing a career-related task. For example, the assignment might be to create a mural, a package design, a speech, a film review, or a movie set – you name it! These creative projects are about applying your learning acquired through in-depth research to real-world career tasks.
Each competency will be addressed through a project based on a real-life career task. Here are the careers you will explore: Forensic Artist, Merchandise Displayer, Illustrator, Photographer, and Cartoonist.
You will take on the role of a forensic artist applying for a job opening at your local police department. You will create a self-portrait to include with your application.
You will take on the role of a merchandise displayer for a local zoo, tasked with creating a unique, artistic window display for the souvenir shop. In your window display, you will create a black and white drawing of a featured animal of your choice, using the pointillism technique.
You will take on the role of an illustrator for a company that publishes children’s educational books. You will create drawings of a three-stage life cycle of a plant or animal of your choice for a children’s book.
You will take on the role of a photographer for a clothing line, tasked with creating sketches of the poses that the models will use to best display the clothes during an upcoming photoshoot.
You will take on the role of a cartoonist for a comic book company, tasked with creating your own comic strip for a kids magazine.
