This course introduces students to the field of nursing. In the first semester students will learn about the history and evolution of nursing, education and licensure requirements, career path options, and nursing responsibilities. Students will also focus on foundational information such as basic anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, first aid, and disease prevention. In semester two students will examine various nursing theories, as well as focus on the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment options. Students will also learn about professional and legal standards and ethics. Additional skills of communication, teaching, time and stress management, patient safety, and crisis management will be included.

During this course, you will learn career-related skills and earn a badge for this accomplishment. Nursing Roles and Responsibilities

Students will demonstrate the ability to understand the basic functions of a nurse by researching and identifying the skills needed to be a successful nurse, the characteristics of a successful nurse as well as the many career options afforded through nursing.

Nursing Terminology, Equipment and Procedures

Students will demonstrate an understanding of common medical terminologies and equipment, tests and procedures used in nursing by researching and illustrating how they support and enhance the daily practice of a nursing.

Anatomy Basics

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the major systems within the human body by analyzing the basic anatomical features, principle functions, and role the system plays within the human body.

Disease, Illness & Pharmacology

Students will demonstrate an understanding of basic illnesses, injuries and diseases along with treatment by researching preventative and health promoting strategies as well as physical and pharmaceutical treatment.
