Overview

Join us for an exciting series of robotics projects where you will learn to make a robot perform various movements and tasks. Each project is a different robotics challenge that allows you to experience what it is like to be a programmer, a robotics engineer, and a field test technician.

During this course, you will learn career-related skills and earn a badge for this accomplishment. A badge is a digital certification of your career-related learning that you can share on social media or with higher education platforms, colleges, potential employers, peers, and colleagues. Major Topics and Concepts

  • During project one, you will assume the role of a robotics engineer. You will be creating an infographic that will show how to use schematics to understand the design and function of a robot.
  • During project two, you will assume the role of a programmer.    You will learn to write python programs that allow a robot to move and respond in a variety of ways. You will complete two challenges and show and explain your code in action in a video.
  • During project three, you will assume the role of a robotics engineer. You will create a flowchart to describe the steps you need to take to identify problems that a robot is having with obstacle avoidance and how you can reach a solution. You will also show your solutions in a video of your robot moving through two challenges involving paths with obstacles.
  • During project four,  you will assume the role of a robot field test technician. You will be completing two challenges to identify common uses of robots.  Then you will create a video to show which field tests and adjustments are the most relevant to use on a robot, based on the common uses of the robot.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of engineering concepts by using mechanical and electrical engineering concepts and techniques to design and build robots to complete various challenges.

Project

You are a robotics engineer working at a company that designs toy robots. You are creating an infographic for a team of technicians. The infographic will show how to use schematics to understand the design and function of a robot called Edison. Your infographic will include a written narration to explain the function of the components inside of a robot, and how currents are used to power the robot.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of Python programming by writing, uploading, and testing Python code to have a robot accomplish various tasks.

Project

You are a programmer at a company that makes robots, and you develop Python code for robots. You are writing Python code to allow the Edison robot to drive in circles, triangles, and squares. Your code also allows the robot to respond to clapping, remote control, light sensors, and to avoid obstacles. You will show your code in action in a video, and explain how your code works, along with how you can use a code to test your robot.

Project

You are a robot engineer. Your company designs cutting-edge robotic devices, such as robotic vacuums, toys, and games. Your team is working on the Edison robot to make it move through paths with obstacles. You have been challenged to identify and propose solutions to problems involving obstacle avoidance. You will create a flowchart to describe the steps you need to take to identify problems and reach a solution. You will also show your solutions in a video of your robot moving through two challenges involving paths with obstacles.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of robot testing by designing a field test, testing the robot, recording findings, and making necessary adjustments to the robot.

Project

You are a robot field test technician working at a robotics company. You determine which field tests are needed depending on the use and type of robot you are working on. You will be creating a video demonstration for your team of field testers. The video will show which field tests are the most relevant to run, based on common uses of the robot. You will adjust the robot if needed, based on data that you collect during each field test run. Then, describe why you needed to make adjustments in your video demonstration.
