Students will demonstrate an understanding of the evolution of law in the United States by explaining the principles of law and ethics, analyzing the principles of the U.S. system of government, and describing the functions of government.

History of Law

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the influence of historical events on the formation of laws by describing historical events and the laws that resulted and analyzing the relationship between events and laws.

The Lawmaking Process

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the lawmaking process by analyzing different domains of governance, explaining how laws are created, and describing how conflicting laws are addressed.

Introduction to the Court System

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the court system by describing the structure of the court system and explaining the trial process.

Civil Law and Criminal Law

Students will demonstrate an understanding of civil law and criminal law by explaining civil procedures, explaining criminal procedures, and comparing the similarities and differences.

The Bill of Rights

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the Bill of Rights by analyzing rights of citizenship and describing rights in relationship to criminal law.

International Law and Civil Rights

Students will demonstrate an understanding of human rights under the law by explaining international human rights policies and explaining human rights policies in the U.S.

Consumer Law

Students will demonstrate an understanding of consumer law by explaining the rights and responsibilities of consumer protection laws.
