Course overview
This course is designed to prepare future educators for the classroom they will inherit! It starts with a history of education and how blended, adaptive, and personalized learning are coming to the forefront in learning.  It then explores new and emerging technologies, along with their current and future impact on education. Throughout the course, students will explore a wide range of career possibilities in the education field and evaluate both the promises and pitfalls of technology in education.

During this course, you will learn career-related skills and earn a badge for this accomplishment. A badge is a digital certification of your career-related learning that you can share on social media or with higher education platforms, colleges, potential employers, peers, and colleagues. In this course, students will

Understand the history of education in the United States.
Evaluate Distance Learning and its origins.
Analyze Blended, Personalized, and Adaptive Learning.
Identify the impact and use of Augmented and Virtual Reality in education.
Understand the use and future impact of Robots in school.
Identify the value of wearable technology in education.
Evaluate the various careers in education.
Understand the future of education based on current projections and research.

    Students will demonstrate an understanding of the United States educational system by summarizing the evolution of education in the United States, describing the impact of technologies in education, and analyzing the organizational structure of the United States educational system.
  • Evolution of Distance Learning
    Students will demonstrate an understanding of the evolution of distance learning by summarizing the history of distance learning, describing the types of quality learning environments, and explaining the management of distance learning.
  • Teaching Styles in Education
    Students will demonstrate an understanding of teaching styles in education by describing the elements of blended learning, explaining elements of personalized learning, and explaining elements of adaptive learning.
  • Augmented and Virtual Reality in the Education Environment
    Students will demonstrate an understanding of augmented and virtual reality in the education environment by explaining applications of augmented and virtual reality in the education environment, analyzing the use of augmented and virtual reality as an educational tool, and comparing careers in developing augmented and virtual reality.
  • Robots in the Classroom

    Students will demonstrate an understanding of wearable technology in education by describing wearable technology for students, describing wearable technology for teachers, and analyzing the impact of wearable technology on the classroom.
  • Careers in Education
    Students will demonstrate an understanding of careers in education by describing the roles of the teacher, describing administrator roles in education, and explaining educational requirements of educational professionals.
  • Technology and the Future of Education
    Students will demonstrate an understanding of technology and the future of education by describing the future classroom possibilities, explaining classroom technology in use, and summarizing the pros and cons of technology in the classroom.
