Do you enjoy drawing and want to learn more about drawing people, color, cartooning, and pointaillism?  Then this course is for you.  While strengthening your drawing skills you will be learning  about the career fields of forensic art, merchandise display, illustrator, photographer and cartoonist.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of self-portrait drawings by examining and explaining the proportions of the human head and creating their own self-portrait.

Project

You are a forensic artist that is applying for a job at your local police department. The application asks for an example of a drawing, so you decide to create a self-portrait to submit with your application. Your self-portrait must be your best work if you want to stand out against the other candidates.

You are a merchandise displayer. You have been hired by a local zoo to create a unique, artistic display for their gift shop window. You have decided to use a technique called pointillism for that unique edge in your display.

Project

You are a photographer for a highly respected clothing line. You have been asked to put together a plan for the upcoming photoshoot. The designer wants to see some sketches of the poses that you think would best display the clothing line in magazines and billboards. You will sketch out a couple of the poses that you would like to use in your photoshoot to present to the designer and models.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of cartooning by explaining common characteristics of cartoons and applying them to their own cartoon creation.

Project

You are a cartoonist for a comic book company. You have been asked to develop a new short comic strip for a kids magazine. The comic needs to be at least four frames long and be appropriate for children ages 8-14.
