Each day, we are surrounded by technology and engineering projects. From our phones to the bridges we drive over, engineering and technology influence many parts of our lives. In Concepts of Engineering and Technology, you will learn more about engineering and technology careers and what skills and knowledge you’ll need to succeed in these fields. You’ll explore innovative and cutting-edge projects that are changing the world we live in and examine the design and prototype development process. Concepts of Engineering and Technology will also help you understand the emerging issues in this exciting career field.

  • Engineering Fields
    Students will demonstrate an understanding of various fields of engineering by exploring the historical relevance and development of various engineering fields, researching the current systems that each design and change, examining the skill set required for a variety of engineering disciplines, and exploring potential growth within those disciplines.
  • History and Future of STEM
    Students will demonstrate an understanding of the history of science, technology, and engineering and ways in which their future trajectories differ, yet depend on one another by studying a product of engineering and presenting on its iterations.
  • Engineering Problem Solving and Design Process
    Students will demonstrate an understanding of the problem solving process and the engineering design process and how the two compliment one another. Students will also demonstrate an understanding of how various engineering disciplines utilize these processes and systems.
  • Ethics and Societal Considerations for Engineering
    Students will demonstrate an understanding of ethics, societal concerns relating to the engineering process, and workplace procedures by developing a set of workplace guidelines and discussing positive and negative aspects of controversial topics such as genetic engineering, nuclear engineering and more.
